OUTLINE SPECIFICATIONS FOR PREFABRICATED HOUSES FOR TROPICAL CLIMATE

FOUNDATIONS:

• The foundations are not subject to special requirements, they are designed to conform to local site conditions, laws and practices. 

SUPERSTRUCTURE:

• The superstructure is assembled of prefabricated elements, sandwich panels or sections for walls, one sided panels for ceilings.

• The houses have a ceiling and a naturally ventilated airspace between the roof and the ceiling.

• The prefabricated elements are made of non-degradable elements.

• No insulation materials are used in the wall and ceiling elements.

• The coefficient of heat transfer and heat retention capacity of the wall and ceiling elements are equal or superior to the value of a traditionally constructed house.

• The walls do not contain cavities or air spaces.

• No crushed stone need be used

• Requirements for cooling or heating are minimal, or none, for normal use.

• The thermal characteristics of the assembled house is favorable for the tropical conditions (cool during the day warm during the night). 

• The wall thickness is 15 cm.

• All repairs and in-situ modifications to any element of the house can be made using locally available skills and materials. 

• The electric installations must comply with the local standards and regulations.

• All elements are incorporated into the structure; no surface wiring or boxes are used.
